Cupping Therapy

"I would highly recommend this company. Jay does a fantastic job with his treatments. From the welcoming and calming environment you get right from the start, Jay then listens to you and tailors the treatment to your preferences & needs.

He's really improved my back, shoulder & leg pains/issues & I now see Jay regularly to keep on top of it, and for de-stress after work! I would definitely recommend booking a massage with Jay."

We are always listening to our clients and customers and looking for ways to improve and enhance the treatments we offer here at Holistically Ginger. Cupping therapy is one that has been mentioned on many occasions and we are now pleased to be adding it into our 'holistic cupboard of goodies'!

Massage cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that has been used for around 2000 years, and is known to help with both pain relief and to promote a variety of health benefits too. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment, or it can be used along-side as part of your regular massage. Whichever way you decide, you will certainly notice the difference afterwards.

Dry Cupping

Have you have noticed the perfectly circular marks on professional athletes over the last few years? Well, these are the tell-tale signs they are benefitting from the use of cupping therapy in their recovery from their sport or exercise. A cup, or cups are placed on the body where the person is feeling soreness or muscle fatigue and then the air is drawn out of them to create a vacuum. This vacuum can be controlled to the person's preference or need. This in turn pulls the skin and muscle into the cup causing blood vessels to break and creates these distinctive marks.

Although these are not the most flattering of marks, the benefits include the reduction of pain and muscle soreness (DOM's), a boost to circulation and a fast way to encourage fresh blood flow to the targeted area. All ways to help muscles repair faster and get them ready for their next challenge!

Here at Holistically Ginger, dry cupping would usually be used in conjunction with a recovery type of massage and can be placed on almost all areas of the body. The pressure of the vacuum would be determined by you and your tolerance to any discomfort you may feel. The cups would be in place for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Silicone Cupping

Silicone cupping is a much more relaxing style. Again, it can be added into your regular massage, or if you prefer, you can have it as a full body treatment! The cups would be moved across your body in a sliding motion with oil or massage wax used to counter any friction. Once the wax is massaged into the body, a cup can be placed on the area and then squeezed to expel the air out creating the vacuum required to raise the skin and muscle into it. The cup is then slid over the area in a gentle fashion. This treatment is very unlikely to leave the circular marks that dry cupping would, but you will probably notice the skin becoming more rosy as the blood flow is increased in the areas you are worked on.

Silicone cupping works like a 'reverse' deep tissue massage, breaking up scar tissue and aiding myofascial release. It is also believed to improve the skins elasticity and firmness by stimulating collegen and elastin production, reduce the appearance of cellulite, and help with acne and eczema issues.

  • Relieves tightness and soreness in muscles.
  • Helps to increase blood flow and circulation.
  • Used to help reduce back, neck, shoulder pains.
  • Improves lymph flow.
  • Helps to remove toxins from the treated area.

Silicone cupping is available at Holistically Ginger to be added into your existing massage, should you desire, or experienced as a full body treatment! It has a deeply relaxing feel to it and is perfect to help with your mental health and well-being. The pressure of the cup is up to you. The more of a vacuum the deeper the massage.
