Acupuncture & Dry Needling

"I would highly recommend this company. Jay does a fantastic job with his treatments. From the welcoming and calming environment you get right from the start, Jay then listens to you and tailors the treatment to your preferences & needs.

He's really improved my back, shoulder & leg pains/issues & I now see Jay regularly to keep on top of it, and for de-stress after work! I would definitely recommend booking a massage with Jay."

What is Acupuncture?

We are delighted to announce that both Caz & Jay have completed a Foundation in Medical Acupuncture and Dry Needling course. This is something that has interested us both for quite a while and we are so pleased to bring it to you. Our clients have been telling us that this is something they would really like us to do and have been eagerly awaiting.

Acupuncture as you may already know is a treatment that involves inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body. It is thought that the body has an invisible energy flowing through it called Qi (pronounced chee) and the lines it flows along are called meridians. Along these meridians are various acupressure points which are seen as the easiest way to access the Qi and where we would insert the needles.

Think of the meridians as railway tracks and the acupressure points as stations along the track. Hopefully you get the idea!

The approach that we have been taught does hold belief that it can help the body in restoring the flow of Qi (the body's energy flow) but it also looks at anatomy and physiology and is used widely for helping to relieve pain and muscle tensions.

What are the benefits of Acupuncture?

The benefits of Acupuncture can be wide and varied. Predominantly our treatments are aimed at helping you with pain management and health & wellbeing.

You may have been dealing with long term (chronic) pain in your shoulder or knee, or have been struggling with low mood/energy or hot flushes. Our treatments could be of assistance to you and help you manage these types of concern, amongst other things.

As with all of our treatments, we follow a holistic approach to health and would always look at the bigger picture of what may be going on in your life to assist how we choose to treat you.

Some of the areas we would aim to help you with are:

  • Chronic/long term pain
  • Recovering from minor injuries
  • Sore muscles
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) disorder
  • Facial Palsy
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety/low mood
  • Stress

How does Acupuncture actually work?

Here's the science bit!!

By inserting needles in to the acupressure points that we feel would be of most benefit for your condition, we are actually stimulating nerves under the skin and deep into the muscles. This triggers a release of endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers, essentially stimulating and speeding up the body's self healing process and aiming to decrease pain in the affected area.

Because the insertion of needles in to specific points may also stimulate our nervous system it can potentially help if we are in a 'fight or flight' state of emotions by activating our parasympathetic 'rest and digest' mode to bring us in to a more relaxed state which could also have a beneficial effect if we are feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or struggling with sleep.

NADA Ear Acupuncture protocol

Caz has recently qualified as a NADA GB practitioner, trained in the NADA

(National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol, which is a specific form of Auricular (Ear) acupuncture, inserting up to five very small single use, disposable needles in points in the outer ear on each side. The Ear (like the Feet, Hands and Face) is a microsystem of the body which means that you can access the whole body by treating the ear. If you have seen Caz for Reflexology, you will know that this is what she talks about quite a lot!

The NADA protocol deals with the same 5 specific energetic points each time and it was initially set up to support people dealing with addiction, but as time has passed it has also shown to be successful as a treatment for wellbeing and in helping with many other areas such as:

  • PTSD
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Anxiety
  • Depression/Low Mood
  • Insomnia
  • Helping the Immune System
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Hot Flushes/Night Sweats

As a treatment, it is most suited to being used in a group setting, where a calm almost meditative atmosphere can exude! Clients are seated and encouraged to sit quietly for up to 40 minutes while the needles are in place. There is no need for any removal of clothing and there is minimal discussion. A consultation is not needed, just a few questions to be answered and consent obtained.

I know that the response to this treatment will differ for many people, but I can say that when I (Caz) received it, I felt an enormous sense of peace and calm.

If you would like to know more about NADA GB and this treatment, please see the NADA GB website where there is some excellent information about the protocol and the fantastic work that takes place.

Acupuncture for acute pain

For a lot of people, acupuncture can be very effective when having to deal with acute pain (short term discomforts and minor injuries that usually heal after being treated). Whether you are getting over a strain or sprain, feeling tightness in overworked muscles or you have been pushing yourself to the limit at the gym or in your sport. You may very well benefit from an acupuncture session or two to help speed up your bodies recovery.

A treatment would generally last around 45 minutes to an hour.

NADA Sundays

The NADA protocol is best suited to a group setting and with that in mind, I am offering a NADA clinic in the Sanctuary on a Sunday afternoon from 2 - 4 pm starting on the 2nd March and running until 29th March (every Sunday in March). This will be a promotion and the cost of the treatment will be just £10 per session. My aim is to provide a calm and quiet space for you to come and experience this wonderful treatment. Places are limited to 4 each Sunday so you will need to book a slot fairly quickly to avoid disappointment. Booking is made direct with myself via the website as this is not available on our booking system, or by sending a WhatsApp (Caz Wadey 07590 067635).

Acupuncture for chronic pain

Acupuncture is thought to be a beneficial treatment for those who are suffering with a chronic pain (long term pains that persist beyond the usual recovery period). Although it will not be a cure, it can be a potent treatment to help manage and lower the discomfort level that the patient is experiencing. It can be effective if you are suffering with fibromyalgia, ongoing musculoskeletal and neck pain, temporomandibular joint disorder, organ, abdominal or pelvic pain as well as tension-type headaches and Migraines.

This treatment would require around an hour of your time and can be performed as frequently as once a week depending on the amount of relief it gives you.

Acupuncture for your well-being

Your well-being is known to have a huge bearing on how a person can function and is much more recognised as being something that we should all take care of especially in these modern times.

Acupuncture has been known to help with a host of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, panic disorders and post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD).

This treatment would take around an hour of your time and can be performed as frequently as weekly depending on the amount of relief you experience.

NADA 1-1

If you would prefer to receive a NADA Ear Acupuncture treatment on a 1-1 basis, I am very happy to provide this and it can be booked via our booking system as per our usual treatments. As this is a new service, I will be providing it initially at an introductory price of just £25 per session until the end of June. You will be with me for up to 60 minutes.

Acupuncture and massage

Acupuncture can also be used in conjunction with a massage. If you are experiencing acute or chronic pains, or are trying to look after your mental health and well-being, this may be for you.

The massage takes place first, to help relax the muscles and areas we are looking to work on and then we finish the session with acupuncture to help with your specific ailment.

This type of treatment takes around 90 minutes and can have a very strong effect on your body which often results in a more comprehensive pain relief and relaxation experience by addressing both the physical tension and the body's energy flow.

...And now a little bit about DRY NEEDLING

Alongside our regular acupuncture practices, we can also use what are known as dry needling techniques. Dry needling is usually used to stimulate trigger points in muscles. Trigger points are commonly referred to as "knots" and as you probably already know, these can feel like tight little lumps that feel painful when you press them. When Dry needling is applied to the trigger point it can help to release or decrease the tightness, increase the blood flow to the area and reduce any local or referred pain you may be experiencing.

Important information about giving blood

Please be aware that if you regularly give blood, you would need to allow 4 months from completion of your acupuncture treatment before you can resume your donations.

Why should I come to Holistically Ginger for acupuncture?

By visiting us here, you can be assured that we have taken every precaution to make your treatment as safe as possible. The training we have undertaken is fully accredited, approved and insured by our governing body, the Federation of Holistic Therapists and both Caz and Jay (and the HG sanctuary) have been inspected and licensed by the Mid Sussex District Council to administer acupuncture treatments, a condition that must be met in the Sussex area.
